The Academy of Sail makes learning to sail an enjoyable and safe experience. It also provides an opportunity to meet new friends, and charter boats.

We currently offer 2 courses:
Introduction to Sailing and
Competent Crew Course plus Competent Crew Theory

INTRODUCTION TO SAILING

The beginners Introduction to Sailing course is about getting to know the basics so you can join the fun.

At The Academy of Sail we conduct the course over ONE lesson of 6 hours.


By the end of the lesson you should know what a halyard does, how a winch works and that sheets don’t just go on beds.We will teach you some useful knots and the basic principals of sailing. Everyone will have the opportunity to helm and complete a tack and gybe.

COMPETENT CREW COURSE

Your dream of sailing a chartered yacht around the Whitsundays, or even the Caribbean, is closed once you've completed your Competent Crew Course.

Whatever your vision of where yachting will take you, it all starts with the Academy of Sail Competent Crew Course.

Your schooling is delivered aboard out ocean going 40ft ketch (2 masted yacht) "Breezy".
You will be learning to sail aboard a vessel that has circumnavigated the world.

The certificate presented by the Academy of Sail on successful completion of the course, represents an achievement to take pride in, and your passport to the world of cruising.

COMPETENT CREW THEORY/NIGHT SYLLABUS

After you have completed the Competent Crew Practical Course and achieved your Practical Certificate, you can get your YA Logbook and full Competent Crew Certificate by signing up for our Theory Course.

The course involves a further 4 hour class, exam and 4 hour night sail.
